U.S. Ambassador to Dhaka Morena said that Bangladesh should create an atmosphere of good relations with the United States to make ready to wear clothing Get duty-free access to the US market.

Morena also said that obtaining such market access and GSP benefits from the United States is a political process.

Morena suggested that Bangladesh should lobby the US Congress, which can decide whether to give a country duty-free market access.

Bangladesh lobbied the United States for a long time to obtain trade benefits, but the United States postponed it.

According to the current tariff regulations of the United States, 97% of Bangladesh's products enjoy duty-free access to the United States market, but clothing, Bangladesh's main export project, is excluded from this benefit.

Although Bangladesh is an underdeveloped country, its clothing exports to the United States paid an average tariff of 15.3%, higher than other developed or developing countries.

In 2011, Bangladesh paid US $600 million in tariffs on clothing exports worth US $5.1 billion. In China, the world's largest clothing supplier, its clothing exports to the United States market only paid 3% tariff.

Morena also said that Bangladesh needs to send a strong message to the United States that the country can ensure the rights of its workers.

In terms of labor rights, the American Federation of Labor and the Industrial Labor Organization (AFL-CIO) have submitted an application to the United States Trade Representative Office to cancel Bangladesh's early benefits of the GSP from the United States.

After the hearing held in January this year, the United States Trade Representative Office decided to continue to give benefits to Bangladesh under the GSP, and to reconsider the issue of labor rights in Bangladesh.

The US government extended its GSP interest in Bangladesh at an early stage until July 31, 2013. At present, the GSP covers less than 1% of Bangladesh's total exports to the United States.

Bangladesh has the opportunity to become a communication center like Singapore, which is determined by its geographical location. Bangladesh is adjacent to Afghanistan, India, China and Nepal.

In the 2010-11 fiscal year, Bangladesh exported products worth US $5.10 billion to the United States and imported products worth US $680 million from the United States
