Ministry Of Commerce: Tanzanian President Calls For More Investment In Textile Industry

The mainstream media of the United Republic of Tanzania, the daily news and Citizen Daily reported on January 12 that President Hassan attended the ribbon cutting ceremony of Basra textile mills on January 11, calling on the industry to invest in the textile industry, and stressed that the government should support the development of the textile industry and encourage garment manufacturing and export.

President Hassan mentioned that the island imports millions of dollars of clothing every year, and these products could have been produced in Tanzania. Tanzania now wants to change the mode of exporting cotton and importing clothing, vigorously develop the textile industry, produce and sell clothing to the international market, and create more job opportunities for Tanzanian people. President Hassan also said that Tanzania's cotton planting industry has an optimistic prospect. The development of domestic textile industry will stimulate the demand for raw materials, and the price of cotton will rise. Basra textile mill is invested by Kenyan company, with a cost of 51 million US dollars. It will be completed in 2024. By then, it will create 1600 jobs and produce 250000 meters of cloth a day, mainly to the East and Central African markets.
