China Will Strengthen Cooperation With Africa'S "Cotton Four Countries"

Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming said at a communiqu conference that China has always understood and supported the "cotton four countries" demands for solving the cotton problem, and has always been committed to promoting the early resolution of the cotton issue in accordance with the "Hongkong Ministerial Declaration". The Chinese market has always been open to the "four cotton" countries.

Chen Deming said that China's assistance to the "cotton four countries" is a practical response and participation in the WTO's "trade promotion assistance" initiative, and actively promotes the Doha round to solve the development problem. It aims to help African "cotton four countries" further enhance the capacity building of the cotton industry.

Mohamed Arrau Tahir, Minister of trade and industry of Chad, thanked China for its "cotton four countries" in Benin, Mali, Chad and Burkina Faso.

He said that the cotton industry plays an important role in the four economies and supports millions of people.

International subsidies for cotton seriously damage African cotton industry, and China's help will play an active role in cotton production.

According to reports, China imports about 2000000 tons of cotton from abroad every year, including the "cotton four countries", which is one of the main sources of African cotton producing countries.
