Textile "Sustainable Inquiry" Restoration Level
Today, the special fabric industry needs to take seriously the issue of sustainable development.
Although enterprises are more inclined to use environmentally-friendly materials when making fabrics, the exploration of what is sustainable products is still a complex problem and a challenging topic.
A report on sustainable product development recently published by the International Industrial Textiles Association (IFAI) has been published. The article attributed three reasons: first, there are many factors that affect sustainability; two, there are certain difficulties in measuring fabric sustainability; three, the requirements for sustainability in the industrial fabric market are varied and demanding.
Usually, people will think that
Natural fiber
The fabrics made are more "green" than those made of synthetic fibers, but for some uses such as outdoor applications, synthetic materials are the most environmentally friendly option.
"Cotton fabrics are only 1~2 years old for outdoor use, while synthetic fabrics have 5~10 years of life."
Glen Raven (Law Enforcement Affairs Manager) John Gant (John Gunter) said: "cotton production will be affected by the environment during planting, organic fibers are usually treated by chemical treatment, while polymer synthetic fabrics are not needed."
Only by taking the road of sustainable development can we survive.
"Now our market demand for green products is bigger than ever."
Gant said that in response to this demand, Glen Raven has developed a new outdoor furniture fabric called Sunbrella, which uses 50% of the industrial waste recycling material, which is provided by Glen Raven and some consumers.
Industrial fabrics with high recovery ratio are more than before.
"In the long run, only companies that follow the path of sustainable development can survive."
Rogers Dave business development manager Dave Sherman (Deef Sherman) said.
Rogers has recently launched the PORON ReSource45 performance pad.
Material Science
ReSource45 is made from renewable polyols from soybean instead of polyols made from petroleum. The substitution ratio can reach 45%.
The United States Unifi Mfg (joint manufacturing) provides a series of
fibre
It is made from 100% recycled materials, including polyester filament, high performance fiber, polyester staple fiber and filament nylon.
The German Norafin company produces natural nonwovens based on flax fibers, which can be used in composite materials or interior design.
"The nonwovens are made entirely of Flax by high-pressure water jet, without any chemical adhesives or additives."
"More importantly, flax supports biodiversity," Joss, manager of the business unit of the company, said. "Cotton cultivation requires a small amount of chemicals or pesticides, and flax is not needed." Jos
In addition, bamboo, coconut, hemp, sisal and soybean are also natural fibers used to make fabrics.
Effectively finding eco-friendly alternatives
Nowadays, many chemicals used in industrial production will have an impact on the environment and human health. Manufacturers can first consider whether the basic characteristics and composition of materials are sustainable in the initial stage of fabric manufacturing.
"There are many ways to assess the hazards of chemicals."
"Chemicals need to be approved before they can be used on fabrics," Gant said.
Material sustainability indicators include the impact of materials in the manufacturing process, the ultimate impact on users, the environmental impact, and the potential impact on human health, wildlife and ecosystems.
The Commission on sustainable economic textiles and clothing (CESTAB) has released a list of chemicals to replace substances, providing a way to effectively find eco-friendly alternatives.

An important element of sustainable product design is long life and recyclable use.
For example, WeatherMax is an acrylic fabric made by Safety Components (safety component) international company, which is suitable for outdoor use. It is not easy to fade and reclaim for many years. The PORON liner material of American Rogers company can maintain its shape and compression performance for a long time.
Most of the carbon footprint comes from energy use.
The operation standard of the industry cloth industry is based on water and energy.
"As an innovative manufacturer, he can make a difference in energy demand and environmental impact," Gant said.
Glen Raven made a "carbon footprint" analysis and found that about half of the fabric's carbon footprint comes from the factory's energy use, including air conditioning, spinning and weaving equipment.
"Many of our fiber suppliers have not received this information for many years.
We hope that we can get more complete and accurate information in the future, which is also important for consumers.
Gant said.
Suppliers and manufacturers may need to consider whether the fabric is dyed with original solution or solution, which is more environmentally friendly.
"There is no doubt that the solution dyeing product needs less water than the dyed fabric, and the wastewater is relatively less."
Gant said, "solution dyed products may be harmless to the environment. In fact, they do not use water and have a way to retain lasting colors.
The fabric with lower color durability is easier to replace.
Solving the dyeing scheme is challenging.
For manufacturers of terminal products that have dyed fabrics, the cost will be even higher.
But Gant says people are usually willing to choose solution dyes for longer life.
If a company buys a low-end product from an irresponsible manufacturer, they will not be able to optimize the durability of their products.
In addition, many things that manufacturers do will have an impact on the environment.
So he suggested buying products with green certification or environmental protection measures.
Waste recycling is environmentally responsible practice.
Waste recycling is also an environmentally responsible practice, and it can also gain additional benefits.
The Glen Raven plant recycls over 400 tons of office and industrial waste annually, resulting in zero waste in landfills.
In 2010, the factory saved about 30% of its water and reduced its waste water by about 25%.
Greening supply chain is another way to achieve sustainable goals.
Jos said: "we try to work with partners in a place not far from our production center, which can shorten the pportation route."
"We do our best to recycle materials."
Scott Massey (Scott Masi), head of a cleaning company in Connecticut, USA, said: "we are doing a clean business, and all waste water will be recycled. We have to save our cardboard and save paper and newspapers as much as possible."
"A lot of materials that are thrown away are still available."
Massey said that the desire to give back to society prompted his company to launch a project called "Rags for Reasons" for waste reuse and recycling.
Creating recycling projects is a more environmentally responsible way.
Glen Raven has created recycling projects to recycle Sunbrella's manufacturing waste and their business customers and consumers' discarded products, and turn it into new products, such as blankets and pads.
Those who do not get free fabric recycling service and do not want to do so will charge for recycling waste materials, such as recycled polyester from European Ferrari (Ferrari) group.
Evaluating products and processes will help industry participants join in the topic of sustainable development, and eventually they will improve on long-term sustainable practices.
