Beijing, July 26, 2011: International Campaign Brand Puma Making a public commitment will eliminate all toxic and harmful substances in its supply chain before 2020, and take the lead in responding to the call of Greenpeace's "innocuous future" and drive the textile industry to make "non-toxic" changes with practical actions. This is followed by Greenpeace, "fashion poison" - global clothing. brand After the report of the China water pollution survey, the first one made a commitment to "poison" commitment to the public.
"We welcome the positive commitment made by Puma to this clear timetable. This is also the biggest achievement of our action to poison the Chinese river so far," said Li Fang, a green peace pollution control project. "Puma has become the leader of the project to poison the Chinese river. If Nike, Adidas and Lining do not commit themselves to catch up with the three sports brands, they will be left behind by Puma in this" poison free "race.
Greenpeace released its investigation report two weeks ago, "the poison of fashion - the global clothing brand's China water pollution survey". The report pointed out that Nike, Adidas, Lining, Puma and other international and domestic well-known clothing brands in China's two suppliers of industrial waste water, containing endocrine disrupting endocrine system and affect the reproductive system of environmental hormones. Greenpeace requires these brands to immediately commit themselves to eliminating toxic and harmful substances that they use in the supply chain.
Puma's commitment combines the core requirements of Greenpeace's request for systematic changes in the entire textile industry, including preventive measures in chemicals management, a clear timetable for eliminating all toxic and hazardous substances in the supply chain and product lifecycle, and the commitment to clean up all toxic and hazardous substances is also applicable to polluting production processes, such as wet processing. Puma also promised to develop an action plan in the next eight weeks, which will elaborate on how Puma fulfills its commitments. Greenpeace will also continue to focus on Puma's implementation of the plan.
"We are still in touch with a number of brands including Adidas, Nike and Lining, hoping that they will announce a timetable for eliminating toxic and harmful substances as quickly as Puma does. If they promise as soon as Puma can do, I believe they still have the chance to win the "detoxification" competition, Li said.
After the release of the report, many consumers and volunteers joined Greenpeace's "detoxification" campaign, calling on the brand to make positive commitments and actions. Last Saturday, more than 600 volunteers and consumers in the world carried out a flash of action called "innocuous and cool" in the Guinness world records outside the Adidas and Nike stores in 10 countries and 29 cities around the world to express their determination to refuse toxic and harmful substances. In Beijing, more than 30 volunteers took part in the activity in the Central Plaza of Seth ole.
Li Yifang said, "our network relay activities are also being carried out in a hot way. More than 3000 micro-blog users have joined the action. Meanwhile, consumers from all over the world have signed their signatures to the decision-makers of Adidas and Nike, calling on them to make a commitment to eliminate all toxic and hazardous substances in the supply chain as soon as possible.

Puma promises to eliminate emissions of toxic and harmful substances
"According to Puma brand's sustainable development policy, Puma, the fashion sports brand, now recognizes the urgency of reducing and eventually eliminating toxic and harmful substances [1] in industrial production. According to the precautionary principle [2], Puma promises to eliminate all toxic and harmful substances in its supply chain [3] by 2020, including not only the final products, but also the toxic and harmful substances emitted during the production process.
Puma recognizes that this commitment represents a long-term vision that needs to be accompanied by clear and definite actions in the short term. In order to achieve transparency, Puma will publish the implementation process through the annual sustainability report.
Within eight weeks of commitment, we will work out a detailed plan of action. "
[1] all toxic and harmful substances include substances with persistent, bioaccumulation and toxicity (PBT), very persistent and very bioaccumulating substances (vPvB), carcinogenic, teratogenic and reproductive toxic substances (CMR) and endocrine disruptors (ED). This requires the establishment of a list of toxic and hazardous substances. Ideally, this list should be worked out jointly with other industries and updated regularly.
[2] this means that preventive action should be adopted ahead of time, rather than waiting for scientific conclusions to prove the relationship between substances and hazards. This is due to the fact that certain toxic substances can not be dispelled by our environment. In this case, precautionary principle must be adopted to avoid serious and irreversible harm, even when there is lack of conclusive scientific evidence.
[3] this means that this commitment applies to the whole company, including all the suppliers and factories of Puma's own brands and authorized brands, and also the lower level suppliers of these factories. As a first step, within 18 months, this commitment will be implemented in all first-class suppliers of Puma. Through this step, Puma plans to implement this commitment through a level supplier to two level suppliers including the wet process.
